As I start on a new blogging journey, I want to take a moment to share with you, the reader exactly what you should expect from my posts. I LOVE God’s Word with all my heart. I truly believe that any follower of Christ can and should have a regular face-to-face encounter with God Himself through His relevant, current, never-changing, always perfect Word, the Bible. 1 John 2:27 tells us that “you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true, and is not a lie, just as He has taught you, you abide in Him.”
Disciples of Christ have an anointing of the Holy Spirit that teaches them what the whole counsel of God tells them. We have no need for someone else to interpret God’s Word to us, we have the Holy Spirit. Beloved, let me set you free on this topic. Any true believer (a person who has placed life-changing faith in the God of the universe through Jesus Christ – the only way) can go directly to the Bible, God’s Word preserved for His people, and know not only what it says, but what it means. We need only approach His word with anticipation, interest, and through the power of His indwelling Holy Spirit. When we go before Him first, sincerely desiring to know Him through His Word, He will not leave our prayer unanswered.
God is not this mysterious, unreachable, intangible being in the sky that cannot be known personally. He has the unique distinction of being incomprehensible, while at the same time, simple and clear to understand and know. He’s God. Words can’t describe Him, yet we can go directly to the source of Truth, His Word, and find a very personal, very real relationship with the God of the universe. How marvelous!!
This brings me to the title of today’s post. CONtext! The word ‘context’ is a combination of two words. ‘Con’ meaning ‘with’ and ‘text’ meaning ‘words.’ So the meaning of the word ‘context’ is ‘with words.’ God has spoken to us in the context of His Word, the Bible. We must consider the whole counsel (all) of His Word to understand it. We must see how the passage we are reading fits into, not only the verses above and below, but how the passage fits into the entire Word of God. We must also consider historical and cultural context. What is going on in that period of history and what is the culture like? This helps us immensely understand exactly what the human author (whose pen was divinely inspired by God Himself) meant in his writing.
Sadly, I often hear Christians say things like “I just have a childlike faith” or “That’s too deep for me” or “I just need someone smarter than me to explain it to me.” Dear one, these are lies Satan feeds us to prevent us from having the truly abundant, mind-altering, life-altering relationship with God Himself that He desires for all of His children. DO NOT BUY SATAN’S LIE. For years, He has been selling His lies as truth to believers and non-believers alike. and, unfortunately, we have bought those lies at a very high price. Our spiritual growth. Ephesians 4:11-16 says we are to “. . .no longer be children . . . we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ . . .” I encourage you today to take this charge from the Lord with fervor and excellence!
Be blessed today, my brothers and sisters!
